I love the wines, people & style of Quivira Winery in Dry Creek Valley. Winemaker Steven Canter is at once philosophical, enormously talented and really entertaining…in his own unique way. GM Nancy Bailey is like my long lost sister from England. We have been known to e-mail each other late at night after we’ve put our respective kids to bed and have a moment or two to catch up on work. If you get a chance, visit their winery to learn first-hand all there is to know about biodynamic grape-growing. Fascinating stuff.
I had a chance to catch up with both of them ‘live’ at the recent blogger convention and told them of my ‘Overheard in Wine Country’ theme. Steven offered up this classsic. A woman was talking to him about the Quivira wines and said…
“…I hear you are dedicated to aerodynamic wine-making.”
It is hard not to laugh at that, yet I empathize with the woman. Wine can be so intimidating — and the organic movement, biodynamic farming, sustainable practices…it can be overwhelming. But I still laughed.
Send me your favorite ‘overheard in wine country’ story — there is an endless supply. And as always, drink charitably…and aerodynamically!
