There is something about Haiku that can be at once artistic…or downright silly. Regardless, I am strangely drawn to this art-form. And I do believe that the creativity after one or two glasses of wine leans a bit more to the ‘art’ side of the scale, while more than that swiftly moves to the ’silly’ side. I suppose it is up to the reader to determine which I have imbibed each week as I attempt to post the Humanitas Haiku of the week.
And to refresh your memory, Haiku rules dictate that there are three lines to the poetry, with the first line having five syllables, the second line – seven syllables, and the third line, back to five syllables. It is also acceptable to work the 3, 5, 3 model. I accept both.
This week’s haiku:
Innocent wine grape
Mercilessly crushed to juice
Noble sacrifice
Was that a no glass, one glass, two glass or too many glasses attempt? Weigh in on this one…please! And feel free to fire back your own attempt. We’ll all put on our ‘reading glasses’ (that’d be wine glasses, by the way), and embrace this art. And as always, drink…and compose haiku…charitably!
